Cyberpunk 2077; the highly anticipated RPG game from CD Projekt Red is drawing ever closer to being within our hands, with a now revealed release date of ‘April 16th, 2020’ after the new trailer which is shown below and after waiting 7 years from its initial announcement, we’re nearly there people! We’re nearly there. In this article, we will be breaking down everything we know about CyberPunk 2077; exploring the details we have been given meticulously both from previous reveals and the E3 trailer. Shall we begin?
Who is V?
V is the main protagonist of Cyberpunk 2077; V is described as being an outlaw mercenary, and from the gameplay that we have seen last year; we can see that V is also very agile, moreover the movement together with the gameplay seems to be very slick and responsive. I am hoping that we see V develop as a character over the course of the game and with our choices making a difference; we are also able to complete the entire game without ever killing anyone (as mentioned by CD Projekt Red a few days before this was written) which is a nice twist on the formula of Cyberpunk 2077. V is going to be a compelling character and ever moreso when our choices matter and we grow a bond with our character.
V can be individually customised by us and either be male, female, or any combination of the two; and in turn, the creator is overall a gender fluid character creator which was revealed by CD Projekt Red after the Microsoft E3 conference with Cyberpunk 2077 had concluded; definitely a great move allowing anyone to be who they want to be.
V also can be optimised by us by the use of stats in the character creator; the stats that were shown to us previously was Strength; Constitution; Intelligence; Reflexes; Tech, and the ‘cool’ stat which is just like a normal charisma stat. These all add a different layer of complexity to just how accurate you really can be when creating your character.
The setting – Night City.
Night City was first introduced as an overall concept and place in the tabletop Rpg Cyberpunk 2020. The neon-drenched streets of Night City are all found in Northern California where the fictional metropolis is situated.
The city is split into six different and diverse districts; the city center, the Watson district, Westbrook district, Heywood, Pacifica; and Santo Domingo. That is quite a lot of random names and you will want to know what is roughly in each, so here you are; the city center is the CBD (central business district) and houses the city’s most prodigious skyscrapers, which slice the sky apart. The Watson district; containing the city’s most degraded buildings, where crime will be very prominent potentially but as will most of Night City’s districts. The Westbrook district; which is where the wealthiest elites stay and is a Japantown. Heywood; where gangs that are still rising to power are mostly based. Pacifica; the abysmal slums of Night City where gangs will pollute every street corner, and finally Santo Domingo; which is the very heavily based industrial district. The information on specifics of each district came from the CyberPunk wiki, which you can find a link to in my sources at the bottom of the article; with a lot more info on the districts if that interests you.
Night city is probably going to be a fairly sized map, potentially with a 1:1 scale even, which will be fantastic to move throughout the city; absorbing all the districts and the different atmospheres that they bring to us.
In 2018 we were given 48 minutes of gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077, we can find out a lot about different mechanics from this reveal, these have been written about again and again; but, if you are yet to hear about the different mechanics or perhaps just want to find out more about the gameplay; I’ll give a summary here.
The gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077 opens up an array of possibilities for the player; if you want to be the silent and deadly type, creative or just be totally chaotic you can be that. The main gameplay ranges from the open world which was said to be a ‘seamless open world with no loading screens’ which we will be free to explore; or take on different missions/quests and have experiences within these missions which we will most likely never forget. CD Projekt Red certainly have a brilliant track record when it comes to creating compelling storylines within both main quests and side quests; look at ‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’ for example.
Combat in Cyberpunk 2077 is very varied from guns-blazing action to stealth as I previously mentioned before, it allows the player to choose how they want to approach a situation. Inhalers also play an important part, such as an inhaler that was a reflex booster, there will be a range of these, some that add buffs and others that may heal us, there may be a way which will stop us from using them too much; in Witcher 3 for example; using too many potions increased your toxicity level and it will be interesting to see if Cyberpunk 2077 features a similar mechanic.
Upgrades in Cyberpunk 2077 is also very prominent too, from what we’ve seen so far, we can visit the ‘Ripperdoc’ to receive upgrades, some giving us abilities to scan objects for information and another one shown here which shows structural weaknesses; however, I believe the upgrades will stem much deeper than these ones with more exciting ones too. Each upgrade appears to have a “Humanity Cost” whatever that may be, or what it may alter.
Vehicles in CyberPunk 2077 are a vital part of the gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077 and there are “many different cars, bikes and other types of vehicles”. The vehicles will allow us to traverse the sprawling open world of Cyberpunk 2077 with ease, and of course; with style. It’s always a bonus when the interiors look wonderful.
The E3 2019 Cyberpunk 2077 cinematic trailer
At the Microsoft E3 conference, we were treated to a celebrity appearance by none other than Keanu Reeves who is going to be playing the character named Johnny Silverhand. We were also treated to a more cinematic view on Cyberpunk 2077, in which we got to see a more grounded look at V; cybernetics and all. V is showcased a lot during this trailer but we also see another character who appears to be able to stop V from using his/her cybernetic implants; this suggests that we can be vulnerable to whatever may interfere with our cybernetic implants, nonetheless I still want to use them.
That is a brief overview of most of the details we know about CyberPunk 2077 so far, I could go on and on for ages but nobody would have the time to read the article. Cyberpunk 2077 launches on April 16th 2020; on Ps4, Xbox One, and Pc. Mark your calendars, schedule your holidays and prepare to experience Cyberpunk 2077.
As always; thank you very much for reading and have a wonderful day!
