Are you a Static Shock fan? Well check out the Amazing Fan Film!

The Static Shock Short film titled “Static Short Film” by David Kirkman on YouTube is black comic nostalgia at its finest. It gives a great retelling of the Origin of Static Shock.

As his dad runs for city mayor, Virgil Hawkins struggles with finding his place in the world and his new found superpowers. Everything is put on the line when it’s discovered some of the city’s gang activities are directly connected to those in power. Both father and son attempt to change the city for the better in their own ways but Change is NEVER easy and the young hero is already in for the fight of his life.

The Static Shock Short film titled “Static Short Film” by David Kirkman on YouTube is black comic nostalgia at its finest. It gives a great retelling of the Origin of Static Shock. It’s a rough jewel but has great promise and well worth the watch! Be warned though this is heavily based on the 1993 Comic origin and not the 2000 animated cartoon.

I loved that the majority of the cast was black which made it feel all the more kin to the original static story. It even had subtle black pride messages of inspiration and confidence which you rarely see any resemblance of this in a fan fiction. The mixed media animation was a nice touch as well for a story like this with a fixed budget of, get this $3,000. YES! A full cast with fx and multiple shooting locations all filmed in St. Louis, Missouri. Mind Blown!

Now even though the story was intriguing, and I viewed it to completion, the plot beats did feel a bit rushed. The rough jewel of a film was outlined by the unpolished skills of the cast. At times I was taken out of some good moments by the acting choices of a few of the performers but it could be because I myself am an actor so I look for realism in any and all movies no matter the caliber. The visual FX of statics powers could have been amped up more with more time and treatment as well.

Overall this is still an amazing project with a hard-working cast and director. This is the kind of stories and content I crave for. If you watched it and enjoy it for what it is an amazing work on comic nostalgia then share it, spread it like wild fire because this is one film that any fan of the series would be proud of!

P.S check out the surprise at the end!
