Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the upcoming addition to DC’s animated movie canon, will please new and old fans alike. Directed by Jake Castorena and written by Marly Halpern-Graser, and based on the DC/IDW crossover comic from James Tynion IV and Freddie Williams II, Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is just as much fun as you’d expect from the surprisingly logical mashup of these animal-inspired icons.
Gotham City is hit with numerous mysterious thefts of all the experimental tech in the city. Batgirl (Rachel Bloom) witnesses a clan of black-clad ninjas fighting mysterious green monsters on one of the heists, informs Batman (played by Troy Baker, who’s pulling double duty here as the first person to ever voice Bruce Wayne and his arch-nemesis, the Joker) as they set out to uncover Gothams new threat.
Batman, TMNT and comic fans are in for a real treat with this one. As I was watching the art style and color seemed more fitting to a nickelodeon cartoon than a dark DC animated title but at 9 mins in I discovered that this one was absolutely made for a mature audience. In fact this particular addition to the DC line up had all the makings to be one of my fsvorite entries so far. Mystery villains. Check. Great jokes and one liners. Check. Fantastic rewindable actions scenes. Check and Comic references galore. CHECK AND CHECK.
Even though the story is almost mirrored from the comic there are a few changes here and there that give it a different feel from the comic version. If your a TMNT fan and/or a BATMAN fan you are going to enjoy this ride!
